Since 1986 our staff at Moss Bay have developed and used with thousands of children a variety of fitness games and activities that encourage kids to seek "inside-out" learning. By this we mean that when kids in our program are excited to do physically challenging activities like paddling 5 miles to the Arboretum in a kayak, or balancing a narrow rowing shell, they discover the joy of accomplishing goals "inside" themselves.
Now, year-around fun fitness activities and parties are available for kids at our new Moss Bay Center where participants can continue to have sporting adventures and stay fit year around. Our fun-fitness center activities serve to remind kids about the importance of "keeping it fun" while doing vigorous physical activity.
Each day at our fun-fitness program there is a fitness theme to the activities being done, just as we emphasize with our summertime KidsCamp programs [see the theme and skills taught by visiting the kidscamp icon at www.mossbay.net]. For instance, in our camps or party experiences, kids will emphasize a fitness concept when doing physically challenging activities. When doing fitness boxing or tumbling, or jump roping, they will demonstrate ways to be smooth, or develop rhythm, or apply power at the right time to a physical activity.
After School Fun-Fitness
Each school Day, children ages 6-13 can participate in our after school fun-fitness program at Moss Bay Center. Arrangements are made to transport children from school to Camp. Like Moss Bay KidsCamp, each week in the Center addresses a fitness-related theme. A variety of indoor and [weather permitting] outdoor games and activities are done that teach skill, balance, rhythem, and self-confidence -- all done with emphasis on fun.
Fun-Fit Birthday Parties
Offered on Saturday and Sunday, these 90-minute birthday parties are a total blast for kids. Since we have available our large launch dock as well as indoor fitness center, there are a variety of weather-related formats that can be used for the parties. Some kids want to go kayaking up the lake to explore sights they've never seen; other groups want to play kayak basketball adjacent to our over water viewing area for parents; and on rainy days many groups prefer our "Indoor Olympics" format with team games and events. Sometimes we also involve parents in the activities for added entertainment.
Parent's Night Out Fun-Fitness Parties
On Friday night's every other week, from 5 to 10pm, kids can enjoy our evening fun-fitness program complete with pizza and fruit salad- adventure games, and appropriate DVD programs. Check it out.
Summer Kids Camp
Week long half and full day camps where kids learn how to have adventures when rowing, kayaking, and sailing. Each camp day is based on a fitness-related theme, like being "smooth" when maneuvering a paddle through the water. Kids are placed in pods of 6 to 8 kids and learn specific athletic skills while paddling toward a destination, like Turtle Cove, where they can see turtles sunning themselves. Multiple photos are taken of each participant and put online for parents to download so they can see both the fun and precision associated with their children's progress. Almost unbelievably, with coaching and practice, participants as young as 6 are able to paddle the 5 miles to the Arboretum and back. For kids who stay at Camp after 3pm will participate in our after camp Fun-Fitness Program at Moss Bay Center.
